In May
2003, Celeste Prussia became the BSFS Manager. Celeste came to us from the Missouri
Botanical Garden where she was Director of the Litzsinger Road
Ecology Center. She has extensive background in administering and
conducting environmental educational
programs.
Celeste has been a great addition with many, many ideas and
skills from developing new programs to finding new contacts to
fixing generators, buildings, and boats.

Beth joined BSFS
in July 2006 to develop long-term monitoring programs, conduct
research, and assist with other field
station activities. She recently completed her Ph.D. in plant
science at the University of Texas at Austin and her area of
research is ecology of algae. Prior to her doctoral work, Beth
worked for Texas Watch, the state’s volunteer water quality
monitoring program, and conducted an ecological study on the
Jollyville Plateau salamander for the City of Austin.

Erica is the newest member of the BSFS
team and joined us in July 2008 to take the reins of the Project
WET facilitator network. Her
esponsibilities include serving as a state coordinator for
Project WET (Water Education for Teachers), an international
environmental education program focused on water; and developing
and implementing an education program and outreach services for
the City of Springfield and Greene County. Erica has a fun
and genteel disposition and plays nice with everyone. She
was a classroom teacher and is now working with classroom
teachers to help them incorporate environmental education across
the curriculum. Way to go, Erica!

Dr. Havel
was the first director of
BSFS. Besides building a strong research program at the station,
he oversaw the development of many scientific databases and informational
websites,
and made the Field Station prominent in regional water-quality
issues. |

Tina Tamme Hopper

Tina Tamme is the most recent past manager of the BSFS. As a
graduate student, she conducted pond zooplankton surveys of the 11
ponds of the field station. She also utilized the large,
limited access area at the field station to conduct field
experiments in plastic play pools.

Mike Dickerson was the
first manager of BSFS. He
developed the BSFS website
and the scientific
databases. Mike left
BSFS to become full-time faculty at Southwest Baptist University.

Kristen Pattinson, M.S.

Kristen is the field
station's local plankton
guru! She has played
a major role in an effort
toward the long term
environmental monitoring
project of Bull Shoals
Lake. She has also
been part of the
macroinvertebrate
inventories of Lake
Taneycomo. Last
year, she started working
on monitoring the water
quality of Table Rock
Lake. Kristen is
also a 4th degree Black
Belt in Taekwondo and runs
her own school in
Republic.

King

Brian Frederick
Research Assistant
2000-2001
Brian Frederick developed
the geographic information
system (GIS) for BSFS.
Brian used a geographic
positioning unit to map
out many of the physical
features and roads at the
Drury-Mincy Conservation
Area. |

Kelsay

Lyn took care of the
maintenance of the Field
Station, including repairs
and improvements to the
Drury house and the boats. |
Jennifer
Zacher
Public Relations 2001
Jen Zacher publicized the
Field Station by writing
many news releases (which
may be read in the Media
Archives section) and
creating the BSFS press
kit.

Kyle
Barrett
Research Assistant
2001-2002
Kyle was instrumental in
building the weather
station. He developed
protocols for downloading
and analyzing the weather
data and also created the
first BSFS Weather Report.

Caleb Hickman and Matt
Stone
Research Assistant 2002
Caleb and Matt were a
productive crew that
worked hard to establish
outdoor educational
facilities at the field
station during the summer
of 2002. Educational
features include a
demonstration pond, a
native vegetation plot, and an
interpretive walk.
Their hard work enabled
teacher workshops to be
held that summer as well
