BSFS News of Note
A few words about our
on the stone shed are finished! The shed was
converted into a wet lab for sample analysis and data
collection. Water, electricity (from our solar-generated
photovoltaic system), and heat (from propane heaters) allow
opportunities for year-round use. A
few shed pictures are available here.
We are ready for your group to reserve the field station! The
house has a stable electricity supply as long as the sun shines
on our new solar panels and the batteries stay conditioned or
the system will kick over to the new propane powered generator.
Nathan Jones, of Power Source Solar, Inc., has done a great job
at getting everything to work properly and is great at putting
up with all our questions. There are two bathrooms: the lower
one is accessible by all and the second floor bathroom has a
shower. The new windows keep the historical look of the house
and are working well with the new insulation to help conserve
heat. The walls are now a pale yellow which really brightens up
the rooms. The floors are finished and we installed very nice
wood framed bunks, so groups can reserve the house with up to 10
people in bunks and use our cots for overflow.
The 800 sq. ft. classroom
building is a wonderful addition to
our facilities and provides a bright comfortable space in which
to conduct indoor activities. Many compliments have been
received by the groups using our newest building.
addition to the eight beds in the Drury House on the shores of Bull

activities, scientific investigations, or environmental
