This
summer the BSFS received a
lot of positive press. In
May, Director John
Havel was featured on both
KSMU and Ozarks Public
Television, the
Springfield News-Leader
ran a story about the
spring open house, and
articles from BSFS public
relations specialist Jen
Zacher were featured in
two area newspapers: the
West Plains Daily Quill
and the Mountain Grove
News-Journal.
In July the trend continued, as KSMU
featured the Field Station in
lengthy segments during National
Public Radio's Morning Edition
and the evening program All
Things Considered. Missy
Shelton, who produced and hosted the
piece, spent a day and a half
interviewing the BSFS staff and
touring the facilities.
In July,
research on exotic species by Dr. Havel and graduate student Tina
Tamme caught the attention of
Branson's KRZK news anchor Don Paul,
as well as The Branson Daily News.
Charlie Farmer also wrote an
excellent essay for the Springfield
News-Leader about the importance of
field stations to our understanding
of ecosystems.
